Occupational Health & Safety at Work

Outline: The company recently worked with a client to determine how to reduce his loss time due to occupational ill health. The project involves ascertaining the in-situ local extraction system of a chlorinated hydrocarbon vapor degreasing tank which was affecting the operator, and persons working adjacent, causing nausea and dizziness.

Action: The inspection revealed that the upper rim extraction vents were situated as to prevent capture of any escaping harmful vapour. We re-designed the extraction points to a position as to induce and capture this vapor before leaving the tank, and enhanced the velocity rating.

Benefits: thus preventing the operator becoming exposed to harmful emissions. This along with reducing fugitive emissions eliminated loss times due to this problem, and promptly led to supplementary production.

Food Safety Management

Outline: We were responsible for instigating an effectual hygiene management programme for a busy restaurant/pub, whereby we introduced a planned approach to reducing food products, mainly due to contamination from food spoilage bacteria. The situation could easily have been made worse by allowing any contaminated food products to enter the food chain. At worse, this could have led to a sporadic outbreak of food borne illness.

Action: The management programme was based on the Hazard Analysis & critical Control (HACCAP) doctrine, and since then the risk from such exposures has diminished, and significant savings made on food wastage.

Environmental Management

  • Integral Environmental Impact Assessments & Pragmatic Environmental Impairment Solutions

Environmental Management

Outline: A client was receiving complaints from private residents from dwellings situated across the road to his premises. The complaints were that of noxious smells front his engineering factory, which caused them to feel nauseous.

Action: On further investigation involving a site survey, we found that his organic solvent emission stack was below the height recommended, and no consideration was given to local topography. This enabled us to determine process plumage, and local wind dispersal, and develop a suitable emission stack design to a height as to prevent private and public nuisances to local residents.

Benefits:This piloted the way for our client entering into shared environmental values with the local community, resulting in good neighbour policy, and less time spent on dealing with local complaints.
